I've always loved the idea of a detox. A few days- in this case eleven- to get it right and press the restart button on your health...like a do-over! Who doesn't like do-overs. The problem is that shortly after- if not immediately the next day- you jump back into your old eating habits because you've been depriving yourself for the past several days. I mean no matter how good you feel, how clear your mind is or how much weight you lose you're just counting the hours, minutes, seconds to when you are "allowed" to toss the juice and hit the nearest doughnut shop- if you don't feel this way, you're either lying or you don't like doughnuts.
That's why, my friends, I'm shocked at what this detox has done to me...or should I say for me. Five days have already passed since I officially completed this detox and I haven't once reached for a doughnut, ice cream, or cake- ok, I had a cookie on Monday, but I'm human. The coolest part is that I'm still doing a lot of the "rituals" that were built into the detox and they're slowly and naturally becoming a part of my daily routine: probiotics, morning elixir, morning smoothie and a shit load of kale.
What's so amazing about The Nourishing Seed Detox plan is that you aren't at all deprived, you're inspired...the entire way through. Francesca Giessmann, the WONDERwoman behind The Nourishing Seed developed this three-prong approach to detoxing your body. Four days of weeding out certain foods, seven days of full on detox and then four more days of reintroducing foods into your system (observing how certain foods react with your body).
The detox is made up of yummy and ridiculously easy to make recipes outlined for you in a super easy to follow day-to-day menu.
Almost twenty days later and what did I learn?
1) I love kale!
2) A Nutribullet can change your life
3) I really like to cook aka. mix healthy stuff together in a bowl
4) Detox does not mean deprived
5) Gluten makes me sleepy
6) Chia seeds are magic
The Nourishing Seed will be running another detox journey this spring (end of March)....Sign up and see what you could learn.
Until then...here's one of my favorite recipes from The Nourishing Seed:
Massaged Kale Salad with Apple
4 Cups of kale
1 Cup of parsley (chopped)
1 lemon juiced (or apple cider vinegar)
1 avocado (chopped)
4 tablespoons of evoo
1 apple (sliced)
salt/pepper to taste
add protein of your choice
Add kale, parsley (optional), lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar), evoo, salt/pepper and apples into large bowl. Start massaging all the ingredients together (with clean hands). Kale should turn bright green and become soft.
Add your protein and other toppings: avocado (I opted for left over brussel sprouts and shrimp), dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, use your imagination!
Yummy right?...told you...sign up here.
