Wash, rinse, repeat. As a beauty addict, there are a lot of rituals in my daily routine that are definitely now a habit. Other beauty addicts might agree. For example, it's not only methodical but habitual how I wash my face, pat dry, tone with cotton pad (chin upwards to forehead), two drops of serum, pat pat, dollop of moisturizer, upwards strokes, mist mist...aah..pat, pat.
Which got me thinking about habits. I haven't been a beauty blogger my entire life- duh. This skincare ritual is fairly new, as a matter of fact, and now each step is like breathing. If I'm not present, I could go through this entire routine and walk out of the bathroom fresh faced- without a thought of what I'm doing.
It's scary and magical actually. Scary because, without having to be conscious of it, our everyday thoughts are becoming habits- habits of being mean to yourself, judgmental to others or sitting in fear and anxiety. But Magical because, if we only got conscious about it...we could change it...and it could be easy, and it could happen fairly quickly. Everyday we are shaping who we will become.
Next time we wash, rinse, repeat...let's also tune into the thought that are in our heads. What are we saying to ourselves, what are we saying about others? What pathways are we strengthening and what pathways do we want to strengthen instead? And once we decide all of that....wash, rinse, repeat.
