Halloween has always been my favorite day of the year. I love the outrageous costumes and the zombie makeup tutorials. I love the cute kids dressed like puppies; I love carving pumpkins and I love Halloween candy. However, more than all of that, I love how Halloween makes me feel– like anything can happen. There is a spooky, mystical and ancient energy in the air that brings me instantly back to a time when I knew that anything was possible.
Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary
Have you heard the urban legend about Bloody Mary? Though I am (in theory) of an age that should no longer believe in monsters under the bed and ghosts in the closet, still, even the slightest utter of Bloody Mary's name said three times (in a creepy voice) brings a chill to my spine. It stirs up memories of innocent childhood games played in a dark bathroom jacked up on Halloween candy.
On this day of All Hallows' Eve, let's celebrate the child in us and do something that makes our hair stand up. Here's to candy corn and scarecrows, here's to Night Of The Living Dead and Ann Rice novels, here's to childhood fantasies (and hauntings) and here's to Bloody Mary (Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary). EEK.
