Gounjae is sort of/kind of the Lush or Sabon of Korea...but in my opinion way more artisanal, way cleaner and way more effective. Like Lush and Sabon, they specialize in soaps. But, not just any "old" soaps....500 days old soaps in fact.
What makes Gounjae soaps so special are their ingredients and also how they're created. All of their products are made with natural oils, herbs and medicinal plants that have been infused into the soap for as long as 6-12 months- making them super powerful.
They also follow a 'three steam' process where they slowly add ingredients at different stages. These precious ingredients can tolerate only certain degrees of heat so this three step process allows them to pack a huge punch in a small ball.
The balls are then aged to perfection (like a great cheese) for 500 days and then perfectly packaged in Bamboo or Korean Paper. Just exquisite.
I am really really surprised at how much I love these soaps. I usually gravitate towards cleansers that come in a bottle....I have a theory that they're more hygienic? But the nifty soap sponge tray really prevents any grossness from happening at the bottom. And, the effectiveness of the soap is too good to deny.
They literally have a soap for every skin type or condition and each are wrapped in beautiful candy colored paper. They're now available in the US so you have to try it. I can almost guarantee that you'll love it.
My skin is clearer, cleaner and more balanced since I started using this and I won't be stopping anytime soon!
